Homer Hickam burst on to the national scene in 1999 when his memoir 'Rocket Boys' reached number one on The New York Times best-sellers list. The story tells about his life growing up in the little mining town of Coalwood, WV, and especially his high school years when he built high-flying rockets. The popular book was adapted into the movie 'October Sky'.
Hickam will open this event with a presentation entitled 'Light, Rocketships and the Dreams of Boys'. The presentation will be followed by a showing of the movie 'October Sky' and lastly a meet & greet and autograph signing.

The Capitol Steps are a troupe of Congressional staffers-turned-comedians who travel the states satirizing the very people and places that once employed them.
They began in 1981 when 3 staffers for Senator Charles Percy were planning entertainment for a Christmas party. Their first idea was to stage a nativity play, but in the whole Congress they couldn't find three wise men or a virgin. So, they decided to dig into the headlines of the day and created song parodies and skits which conveyed a special brand of satirical humor that was as popular in Peoria as it was on Pennsylvania Avenue.
